Some of my first memories of the Alabama/Auburn rivalry are when the Callaways, the Overtons and the Hicks exchanged a black ribbon after the game was over to the losing family. I have many memories since I have been to 36 straight games but my best memory is "The Kick" one of the most exciting 4th Quarters of football ever.

  6. Kendall,

I remember when you were an Auburn fan. So you and I both know that the greatest Auburn vs. Alabama game was on December 2, 1972. A few days before the game, Alabama head coach Bear Bryant incited the rivalry when he told reporters that he would rather, "beat that cow college once than beat Texas 10 times." That set the stage as second-ranked Alabama brought a 10-0 record into Legion Field to meet the ninth-ranked Tigers, who were 8-1. Auburn Heisman Trophy winner Pat Sullivan and All American wide receiver Terry Beasley graduated one year earlier. Alabama was as cocky as ever.

For the entire game, Bama's defense held the Auburn offense in check. With 5:30 remaining in the game, 16-point favorite Alabama held a seemingly insurmountable 16-3 lead. The Tigers, perhaps fueled by Bryant's remarks, came roaring back for one of the best finishes in Auburn-Alabama history. Auburn's Bill Newton blocked two Alabama punts and David Langer ran both in for touchdowns as Auburn came back to win 17-16.

I watched the game in the Auburn stadium with Beth Jeter, another rabid Auburn fan, who was at her first Auburn football game. She was ruined. She would never, ever see another Auburn victory that sweet.

You’re an Alabama fan now, but don’t forget your “roots”.

“Cow Power” and “Punt, Bama, Punt” will unto this day get under the skin of any Alabama fan old enough to remember that day.

  8. last year has got to be one of the proudest moments of the bama/auburn rivalry. Auburn was on a 6 game win streak and Bama just totally shut them down. There are many memories from one of the most intense rivalries in college football, but i am proud of last year's moment and it counts as my favorite.

  9. After attending Bama games since my teenage years, I was lucky enough to finally get season tickets last year. We started off with an unexpected win against Clemson and the season took off like a rocket from there. I attended every Bama home game and the Georgia game in Athens too and there was defintely something special about this team; their heart and their drive to win was unreal. Finally, at long last the Auburn game---- the stadium was absolutely electric after honoring one of BAMA's own who had lost his entire family in a car accident. Even some Auburn fans cried. Alabama throttled Auburn 36-0 and because it had been raining all day you could see the smoke drifting in a thick fog around the stadium lights. Someone next to me said, "That is a six year curse being lifted." A perfect year-- in more ways than one. WOW- I am not sure I have even been more proud to be a BAMA fan as I was that night! Roll Tide, ROLL!

  14. It would have to be the 2004 Undefeated Auburn team against the #1 ranked Alabama defense. That was my first time going to the iron bowl. Auburn was down at half but came back to win 21-13. Hope the Boggs family has a wonderful 4th.

  17. 1985!!! Van Tiffin field goal. We were in Panama City at my granny's house for Thanksgiving. They had really low cielings. My Dad is typically calm, nonreactive type. Van Tiffin kicked the field goal for Alabama to beat Auburn 25-23! Dad almost went through the roof literally! We all sprang to our feet in a roar of excitement! Most of us touched the cieling, but Dad is a rather tall fella and he hit his head on the cieling! LOL It was definitely the best ever!

  18. Every game where Alabama wins is my favorite. This year's game vs. Auburn was a favorite because Bama broke the losing streak! I was raised die hard Bama fan and this painting is awesome and would be a great addition to my Dad's Bama Room!

  21. My favorite Alabama Auburn game was years ago. (And I mean years ago when it was played in Birmingham) My mom and I were on the bus with fans from both colleges. To say it was a lively crowd was an understatement.

The thing that sticks with me is when I turned to my mom and asked why the Auburn fans were holding signs up in the bus windows. The buses had tented windows so no one could see in much less read the signs.

  25. Legion Field, 1985 Iron Bowl, Alabama vs Auburn. QB Mike Shula drives the Tide to the Auburn 35 yard line, setting up Van Tiffin's 52 yard FG, giving Bama a 25-23 victory! I was 12 yrs old,and I remember me and my dad jumping up and down in the living room screaming "He made it, he made it!" The newspapers said it best the next day with one word in bold type: UNBELIEVABLE!! For me, it sealed the deal, I will always bleed Crimson. Roll Tide!

  26. I don't follow football much, but I remember the iron bowl in which the Tide, with a perfect record, had a sure win snatched away by Auburn near the end of the game. Blocked punts that got run in for touchdowns. My cousin was married to an Auburn kicker named (something) Beverly. The score was 17-16. I think it was, maybe, 1972?

  28. I have been a BAMA fan from birth. In 1992 I started dating a wonderful man (so i thought) and then discovered he was an AUBURN fan! I have always been up for a challenge so I thought "what the hell". We were married in 1998. After couple of years of marrige we drew up a contract stating that each year on Iron Bowl day we ARE NOT husband and wife! It has been a long road and we have had to replace a lot of elephants and eagles (& tigers) over the years. I have to say that the 2008 36-0 victory for BAMA had to be my favorite because it saved my marrige. If I had to go another year, getting another "finger", I was going to give him a finger! I had already decided I could not go through a 7th year of hell (lol)! So Thank You SABAN NATION! Roll Tide Roll!

We dive the field capping off a 74 yd drive with game winning td pass from Freddie Kitchens to Dennis Riddle. 24-23 Bama

  48. Last years Iron Bowl was probably one of the best for me. It's just poetic justice that "the beatdown in T-Town" happened. They had won 6 straight, similar to when they had their 17-16 game in 1972. The next year, 1973, Bama spanked them 35-0. The little ditty, "17-16 is no more, 35-0 is the score" went on for the whole following year.

I'm torn. Since we live in Texas, we don't get to see too many games. But we managed to get tickets to the 2006 Cotton Bowl Games against Texas Tech. We all though Tech had it until what we call the world's ugliest kick happened and Bama won! To this day we have been known to chant, "no one ever said it had to be pretty"!!!!! But, we LOVED the last Iron Bowl game: 36-0, baby!!!!!

  61. In 1985, I was an eleven-year-old little girl. I lived in the heart of Bear country (Tuscaloosa). I was watching the Alabama-Auburn game with my dad when Van Tiffen kicked that 52 yard field goal to beat Auburn. I saw my dad's face light up like it never had and the excitement in his screams made me realize the importance and the passion behind Alabama football. I remember the pictures of the Bear in that house in Tuscaloosa and how everyone else ALWAYS had at least one picture in their home too. Of course I am reminded of that on a daily basis, because I carried that tradition on when I left Tuscaloosa 6 years ago (at age 29)I have a canvas painting of the Bear leaning against a field goal with the houndstooth hat on and my husband has a signed photograph of the Bear that he has held on to since he was a child! They both serve as reminders of the passion behind Alabama football and the man that we still love!!

  63. My greatest Auburn / Alabama experience was in 1997 in Auburn.

Growing up 30 miles from Auburn, I hadn't ever been to an Alabama Auburn game and neither had my mother. It was my first year at University of Alabam as a Freshman and I played in the Million Dollar Band. We had been preparing a new show to blow Auburn away with...Phantom of the Opera.

I wanted mom to see the show so bad because it was going to be the most amazing show yet. I knew tickets would be nearly impossible to get. Some how, I can't remember, but Mom called and someone was going to give her a ticket so she could go see her baby girl play. Unfortunately, she would have to sit on the Auburn side, but she did not care.

Riding the bus through the farms of Auburn we came up on a row of houses, Fraternity Houses. There in a perfect line were the bare rear ends of all of the fraternity members from house to house to house. What a way to represent! I was not proud for all of my band members who had not ever been to Auburn to encounter the site which was presented to us.

Going down on the field right before half time, there was a short little trumpet player wrapped up in the arms of an Auburn Tiger football manager...it was me and one of my high school classmates. That was an awesome site---orange and blue mixed with all of my crimson and white. The next thing I knew, mom was yelling for me at the sidelines. She was in the perfect spot to see the show from the front. All year long at Bryant Denny, she had to watch the show from the back and never heard the true sound of the Million Dollar Band.

So the whistles blew and Kathrine Scott went up her ladder with her shoes off to conduct the last game of the season. The show went on and under the Mask tarp with all of the actors we all went. Back out onto the field we marched to go for the "BIG PUSH." At the end of the song, all you could hear is the sound of the Million Dollar Band resonating through the walls of Jordan Hare.

We played Yea Alabama off of the field and there was my mom gleaming from ear to ear and all of the Auburn Fans saying "Hell of a Performance."

At the end of the game, we were all disappointed because it was "so close." We finished the night with Amazing Grace. The way it sounded reverberating through the walls of the stadium sent chills up my spine.

It had been weeks since I had been home and I was lucky to have a friend who drove his truck to Auburn, so I was able to ride home with my mom nad catch a ride back to Tusdcaloosa with him the next day. Mom and I were walking back to the vehicle. At least ever other Auburn Fan had something nice to say about our performance. Others were really rude. However, nothing could take away the pride I felt to be part of a Winning Team, The Million Dollar Band, and have my mom there to witness a great event.

  72. My husband & I host a ALA/Au Iron bowl party every year. This year will be our 10th annual! Each year we have a big crowd of friends & family & neighbors, and I think it grows more every year! I have to say my favorite story is from 2001, when Bama beat Au 31 to 7, I believe. One of our traditions are to take shots of Tequilla when the other team scores. Well, needless to say, AU stopped scoring, and we Bama fans had to start taking VICTORY SHOTS! Everyone was pretty much feeling good by the end of that game, even my father in law which is a HUGE Aub fan, was saying ROLL TIDE! After the designated drivers took their respected parties home, My husband soon found out that ol' Jose' was not a friend of his anymore! He started hugging the porceline goddess & calling Ralph! I was able to record his fine moment on video & Photos were taken. I then found myself in the other bathroom feelin' the pain, after watching him get sick! After our Niece & Nephew put us both to bed, they cleaned our house & kitchen. From every plastic cup, plate, beer bottles, down to the last chip bowl, they washed it all, took out the trash & left us to our spinning room. The next morning, as I stumbled to find the asprin, I was in awe to find my kitchen so nice & clean, and almost cried! It was the best feeling to wake up to no mess after one of the best parties we have ever had. And to read the headline on the paper too! ps. Our oldest son's name is Kendall, spelt the same way & Our youngest son's name is BRYANT! Our oldest daughter Bayleigh is attending Bama in Aug. too! ~ROLL TIDE ROLL~ Thanks, Ambi

It was raining on me the whole way home and I knew it was raining at the game to. I remember the excitement in the announcers voices as they narrated the game. They described how the red dye in one of the players pants was bleeding on the field from getting wet. Their were several times I got so excited I didnt know if I would be able to keep driving. When I got home I couldnt wait to see the replays and the red dye I had heard som much about as described by the game announcers. What a game!
